EmpowerU

Mental Health Panels

Game Plan Life Foundation delivers athlete mental health panels straight to schools powered by student leaders who help shift culture, reduce stigma, and connect peers to support.

Built for schools, teams, and youth communities ready to move from “awareness” to real conversations and real pathways to care.

What these panels deliver

Clinical-grade messaging, athlete-led, and student-supported. Designed to meet young people where they are and move them toward help without shame.

Credible voices students listen to

Athletes normalize the conversation and make mental wellness feel real, relevant, and reachable.

Culture shift, not a one-time talk

Panels spark ongoing dialogue, student-led initiatives, and consistent pathways to resources.

Actionable support + next steps

Students leave with language, tools, and a clearer understanding of how to seek help for themselves or a teammate.

EmpowerU Captains Program

A student leadership pathway that helps bring athlete mental health panels to schools, and keeps the conversation alive after the event.

What is the EmpowerU Captains Program? +
We deliver athlete mental health panels directly to schools by empowering students to lead. Captains help organize programming, activate peers, and build a healthier culture on campus.
Who can apply? Is it open to non-athletes? +
Anyone can apply. Captains can be current or former athletes, students involved in clubs or leadership, or anyone who cares about mental wellness and community impact. You do not need to be a current athlete to apply.
What do Captains do? +
As an EmpowerU Captain, you agree to:
  • Learn: Explore mental health topics and how they impact athletes and students.
  • Lead: Share what you learn and help start healthy conversations in your community.
  • Take action: Complete at least one educational or advocacy activity each month (team talk, tabling, social campaign, classroom presentation, etc.).
  • Train & connect: Complete one mandatory mental health training and attend monthly check-ins with your mentor.
  • Commit time: Dedicate a minimum of 3 hours per month to EmpowerU Captain activities.
What can I gain by being a EmpowerU Captain? +
Captains gain training and guidance from a mentor, opportunities to collaborate with other Captains, access to a network of peers, and experience leading real-world impact in mental health advocacy and education.
What’s the application process? +
Applications open twice a year, during July and December. To stay updated, sign up for the newsletter at the bottom of the site. We’re looking for students who can manage time, complete monthly activities, and engage with their mentor — even if you’re unsure, apply anyway.
